Problem / Task: To celebrate 50 years of independence, the PNG Government asked us to develop a hero film. Our task was to showcase and celebrate the nation's history in 90 seconds, and to build optimism for the future.

Insight: A lot has changed in PNG since independence, but one thing has stayed the same and has represented the PNG people and spirit for the last 50 years: the Kumul, PNG's national bird.

Idea: We follow the Kumul's journey as it flies through 50 years of PNG history, from historic events to what is happening in the country now. The film starts at the independence ceremony and ends in modern-day PNG. We used a mix of archival and modern drone footage to follow the Kumul from 1975 to the present day, capturing all the provinces, cultures and ways of life along the way.

Music: The film is soundtracked by the famous PNG song 'Wan Kantri', sung by the Tanata Village Choir.
